COVID Update: We are less than 8 weeks away from the H3D 2021 Symposium which was scheduled for 10th – 12th March 2021. Unfortunately, I regret to announce that our organizing committee has decided to cancel the H3D 2021 Symposium, which was in fact a rescheduled version of the original H3D 2020 symposium. As all of us are aware, the COVID-19 outbreak continues to pose serious transmission risks for all face-to-face interactions, particularly with large international events like this symposium. In addition to the transmission risk, navigating changing regulations with regards to international travel and gatherings is quite daunting to all. Given the risks and uncertainty, I hope that you will understand the reasoning for the cancellation.

However, I am pleased to inform you that we will be hosting a new H3D symposium from 25th-28th Oct 2022 at the same venue, Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch outside of Cape Town, South Africa. We hope you will consider joining us then.

Welcome from Kelly Chibale, Chair of the 2020 H3D Symposium Committee:
I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the 2021 Symposium hosted by the Drug Discovery & Development Centre (H3D). This will be the 4th H3D Symposium to be held in Africa (the 3rd in the Western Cape) and is a very special Symposium as it marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of H3D. Thus, the theme of this special H3D symposium was derived as ‘Celebrating a Decade of Infectious Diseases Drug Discovery and Development’. The Symposium will cover the Centre’s research over 10 years conducted on Malaria, Tuberculosis (TB), Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and drug resistant infections of bacterial origin towards combating AntiMicrobial Resistance (AMR).

The Symposium takes place in true Cape style at the Spier Hotel, surrounded by leafy vineyards and beautiful mountain scenery and situated on the outskirts of the historic and picturesque old town of Stellenbosch. The organizing committee is currently encouraging participation in the symposium by drug discovery scientists from Africa, as well from all over the globe, who are working on the discovery of drugs to combat TB, Malaria, AMR and a host of NTDs. Through this symposium, we aim to ensure that all these highly infectious, deleterious diseases that primarily affect the African population, will receive worldwide attention in both scientific and non-scientific arenas.

I urge you to consider participating and making the most of this opportunity. Besides networking with the other delegates, there will be wonderful scenery to admire and activities to enjoy. I hope that participation in this symposium will inspire your further research for the next decade!
