SUMMARY:Live Webinar: GARDP/REVIVE Mining Chemical Libraries for New Antibacterials - Session 2
DESCRIPTION:The overall goal of this series of webinars is to provide\, for the non-clinical developer\, an understanding of the risks of development for various kinds of antibacterial products. \nIn this webinar the recording of Carl Balibar’s presentation ‘Mining of chemical libraries for new antibacterials’ (original webinar on 21 May) will be followed by another live Q&A session with Carl. \nDespite the promise of target-based drug discovery ushered in by the genomics era\, no mechanistically novel rationally designed antibiotic has reached clinically utility to address the threat of multi-drug resistant bacterial pathogens. Phenotypic screening remains the primary source for new antibacterial compounds\, which mainly come from mining various chemical libraries. In this webinar\, Carl Balibar (Merck Research Laboratories) will discuss screen design\, target bias\, and hit-prioritization strategies to identify those entities with the greatest opportunity to be developed into the next new antibiotic. \nSpeakers:\nCarl Balibar\, Principal Scientist\, Merck Research Laboratories \nModerator:\nBenjamin Blasco\, Discovery Senior Project Manager\, GARDP \nRegister here for this live webinar.

SUMMARY:Medical\, Biomedical & Biodefense: Support to the Warfighter Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Panelists members include Kevin Outterson\, Executive Director of CARB-X\, on the “Public-Private Partnerships: Research and Development Consortia and Accelerators” panel. \n\n\n\nThis panel will discuss the use of public-private partnerships as models for stimulating innovation through sponsored research and development. The panelists will provide overviews of several partnership-enabled consortia and accelerators\, including BARDA’s new Division of Research\, Innovation\, and Ventures and their participation in the partnership\, Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria\, and\, as well as DoD’s Medical CBRN Defense Consortium and Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium. Presenters will discuss their organization’s background and structure\, as well as their unique mechanisms for engaging the research community to solve significant public health and biomedical challenges. \n\n\n\nThe Symposium will focus on two separate tracts. The first\, “Medical Support to the Warfighter\,” will connect businesses and university researchers with military and other federal agencies that require or purchase medical supplies\, equipment\, devices\, pharmaceuticals\, information technology and services\, or fund medical-related research and development. \nThe second tract\, “Biomedical and Biodefense Support to the Warfighter\,” will focus on establishing dialogue between industry and academia-based technology innovators and military and government officials to address the future biomedical and biodefense needs of the military and our nation. \n\nTo learn more\, please click here.

SUMMARY:ASM Microbe Breakout Session - Enabling Academia to Fill the Discovery Gap
DESCRIPTION:Presentations developed in cooperation with GARDP\, CARB-X\, and REPAIR Impact Fund. \nAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues to be a major problem that is not being addressed adequately by the pharmaceutical industry. Academic research is more frequently serving as a source for novel antimicrobial agents to treat infections caused by antibiotic-resistant organisms. In this session\, drug discovery efforts originating from academic laboratories will be discussed. The importance of collaborative efforts will be emphasized.
