Job Description

The Director of Development and External Engagement is an important new role for CARB-X. While we have had excellent relationships with our initial five funders through the first five years of CARB-X, we aspire to secure funding from several new, high-profile funders for the next five to ten years. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual to shape this new role, and to develop new capabilities for CARB-X that will create a consistent, positive experience for donors at every touch point. This outward facing role will require the Director of Development and External Engagement to be a leader with a demonstrated ability to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships at a global level.

While the primary objective is to secure funding from governments and major foundations around the world, it is also important for CARB-X to cultivate relationships with potential investors to product developers within the CARB-X portfolio, and to manage relationships with other organizations working to combat antimicrobial resistance. The main office for CARB-X is in Boston, Massachusetts, but this position may be filled via remote working from other locations. This is a full-time, 35 hour per week position, that is grant funded.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of relevant experience required. Demonstrated experience in fundraising and funder relationship-building for grant-funded, mission-driven organizations is essential. Experience with government funding in the US and internationally would be valuable. Demonstrated high-quality writing and presentation skills are essential. Fluent in English (required) and another key language in Europe or Asia (valuable). Experience in Global Public Health is important; familiarity with products related to infectious diseases is valuable. Must be able to work independently with a high degree of quality based on general direction.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
